WAFTA 2018 Annual General Meeting

All WAFTA members are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting at which nominations for the executive officer positions of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Secretary will be received and voted upon.

All nominations are welcomed via email to info@wafta.com.au, or in writing on the evening.  Voting will be led by the returning officer, Margaret Ford, and will form the committee for 2018/19.

Following the AGM we are pleased to invite our guest speaker for the October WAFTA Talk.  Supper will be served after the talk and any notices.

WAFTA Talk: On the Point of a Needle with Katrina Virgona

Hear about Katrina's journey with textiles over the last 20 years. Katrina works three dimensionally with a diverse range of materials including wool, wire, wood, fur and hair. Primary processes include wiring, binding, coiling, felting and stitching. Katrina’s work has been exhibited, published and collected locally, nationally and internationally. She will talk about how she came to be part of an annual European miniature textile exhibition that toured 4 galleries in Italy and France in 2017/2018. You too could apply to be part of this annual show.

Katrina Virgona was born in Cairns, North Queensland and moved to Fiji for four years with her family when she was nine. On her return she lived, worked and studied in various locations around Australia before finally settling in Perth in 1984. Katrina completed two Bachelor degrees majoring in psychology (University of New England, NSW) and then in visual arts (First Class Honours - Curtin University, WA). She also completed an Associate Diploma in Visual Art Management at the North Metropolitan TAFE. Katrina has been teaching at Curtin University for 14 years and also conducts independent textile workshops.
