September Members Meeting - Stitch as Code Floor talk
Join us for an exclusive floor talk from Dr Anne Farren representing the curatorial team for the exhibition Stitch as Code, as part of IOTA24 at Curtin. We are delighted to be hearing from artists Moira Doropoulos, Lea Taylor and Bic Tieu about their work in the exhibition.
Moira Doropoulos lives in Perth, Western Australia, and is a lecturer at the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry at Curtin University. Exhibiting nationally and internationally in numerous group exhibitions, her creative engagement spanning three decades has also included curatorial projects with a focus on the promotion of Western Australian textile art. Doropoulos’ art practice is informed by an interest in the traditions, rituals and objects of material culture that affect personal identity.

Description
This exhibition aims to curate cultural narratives and authorial intent through artefacts and their mutual relations.
We are looking to cultivate a new appreciation of the creative process using a case-specific curatorial method based on the particularities of each author. As we explore the cultural narratives told through making, we interpret the meanings of each creative action and compose a common story while highlighting particular objects. These objects manifest cultural imprints woven into a code through a common idea of belonging to the land. Starting the Indian Ocean journey in Western Australia, the project stretches its reach to Indonesia, India, and Zimbabwe, looking to expand further, mapping threads of seemingly distant but alike creators and makers.
Curatorial team: Dr Aleksa Bijelovic, Dr Anne Farren, Chris Mewburn, supported by IOTA curators.
