Join us for an exclusive floor talk from Dr Anne Farren representing the curatorial team for the exhibition, as part of IOTA24 at Curtin.

String Craft showcases the cultural and gendered significance of string crafts to indigenous Australian and Papua New Guinean communities, with reference to the Aboriginal Dilly Bag and the PNG Bilum.

The exhibition features artworks by First Nations WA artists Lea Taylor and Katie West and a selection of dilly bags and textile artworks from Northern Territory artists from Bula’Bula Arts, Ramingining, Maningrida Arts & Culture and Bábbarra Women’s Centre, Maningrida.  The bilums on display come from private collections, representing bilums from the Sepik, Highlands and coastal areas of PNG.

The exhibition is presented in Building 418, Exhibition Space, in the School of Design and the Built Environment at Curtin University. Please note this is not John Curtin Gallery.
