WAFTA AGM + PRESENTATION BY DEIDRE ROBB
5th June 2025
Thank you to all the WAFTA members who attended the AGM, both in person and online. The AGM was held at Tresillian Arts Centre on 31 May 2025.
Following the formal proceedings, Deidre Robb very generously gave a presentation on the Benefits of WAFTA Membership. Given Deidre’s four year experience as the WAFTA Membership Secretary, her insights were informative and motivating.
The key points from Deidre’s presentation were as follows:
Making the most of your WAFTA membership.
1. Use WAFTA's newsletters to share your news.
WAFTA's newsletters provide a vehicle for you to share your news with other members (Threads) and with a wider audience (Sampler). As social media changes make it more difficult to reach a wide audience, our newsletters are becoming more important. WAFTA can help you to get people to your exhibition, sell out your workshop, or make people aware of your achievements. The more contributions we receive, then the more interesting the newsletters become.
2. Communicate directly with other members via the Member Jungle Chat Rooms.
Whether you are looking to buy or sell something, want to connect with members with a shared interest, need advice, want a companion for a Remida visit, or for anything else, the Chat Rooms are your best way to communicate directly with other members.
3. Be a sharer.
If you spot an opportunity that would be a good fit for our members then send the details through for inclusion in WAFTA's Members-only opportunities listings. Having a wide range of exhibition EOIs, residencies, competitions, workshop facilitator callouts, and other opportunities listed will support our members to build their creative practices. Keep an eye on that page and you might find the perfect opportunity for yourself.
4. Share your skills.
The WAFTA committee has no shortage of great ideas to develop the organisation but people are always needed to do the work to deliver our ongoing programs and special projects. We all have different strengths, skills and things that we enjoy doing. Consider if you have time, energy and capacity to offer these to WAFTA either by joining the committee or in another role. From my experience this work is very rewarding and is an excellent way to meet other members.
If you are interested in joining WAFTA, please go to Membership section of the WAFTA website and click on “Join or Renew”.
