WAFTA and FFTITC Launch Statewide Digital Exhibition for Emerging Textile Artists
09th August 2025
The Western Australian Fibre and Textile Association (WAFTA) has joined forces with the Food, Fibre and Timber Industry Training Council (FFTITC) to present New-Gen Textiles: What’s Old is New Again, a special online exhibition celebrating the creativity of emerging textile artists across WA.
Part of WAFTA’s 30x30 program marking its 30th anniversary, the exhibition will feature works from secondary (Years 10–12) and post-secondary (TAFE and tertiary) students exploring innovative textile-based media. Submissions, nominated by educators, will open via WAFTA’s online portal from 13–31 October 2025.
Curated by respected industry leaders Dr Anne Farren and Dr Joy Denise Scott, the exhibition will showcase at least 30 selected works that reflect personal or social issues, with a focus on sustainability, reuse, and traditional making practices in response to global textile waste challenges.
The exhibition will run online from 20 November 2025 to 31 January 2026, offering a state-wide platform for young makers to share their skills and vision with a broad audience.
