WAFTA @ FIBRES WEST 2025

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

 

WAFTA is delighted to again offer a $1000 scholarship towards attendance at Fibres West from October 5–11, 2025.  

 

The WAFTA @Fibres West Scholarship to attend Fibres West was established in 2014. The Scholarship enables a WAFTA member to attend the Fibres West 2025 residential week from October 5 - 11, 2025 at Narrogin Agricultural College. This merit-based scholarship will provide $1000 towards the full-fee registration cost with the recipient contributing the balance of that cost. The recipient will also be responsible for any materials fees charged for their chosen workshop. 

 

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION 

  • The successful applicant will be a financial member of WAFTA both at the time of applying and at the time of participation in Fibres West 2025. 
  • The applicant should be actively participating in the activities and events of WAFTA. 
  • The recipient will be a member whose participation at Fibres West 2025 would benefit not only themselves but also the promotion of WAFTA and/or participation in the textile art events of WAFTA. 

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE 

A panel drawn from the WAFTA Management Committee will review all applications and select a recipient on merit. All panel members will be excluded from applying themselves. The selection panel's decision will be final, and no discussion will be entered into.  In the event that no suitable candidate is presented, the scholarship will not be awarded for Fibres West 2025 and the funds will be carried forward. 

 

ENROLMENT APPLICATION 

As places in Fibres West 2025 are likely to fill quickly you are strongly encouraged to submit your application for enrolment and pay the required deposit without awaiting the outcome of your WAFTA @ Fibres West Scholarship application.

Applications for the WAFTA @ Fibres West Scholarship must be completed online or posted to arrive no later than May 1, 2025. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by June 15, 2025.

All applications must contain: 

  • Complete Scholarship Application form 
  • A copy of your Fibres West invoice for outstanding balance
  • Statement of merit (no more than 300 words) 
  • Two to three images of your work 

Please include a statement of no more than 300 words in support of your application and up to three images, saved as jpegs. Images should be labelled with your name, title of the work, year made, dimensions, and details of materials and techniques used. Posted applications should include a USB with images.

Unsuccessful scholarship applicants will have their deposit refunded if they are unable to attend Fibres West 2025. 

 

STATEMENT

Please write a statement (no more than 300 words), indicating why you merit being awarded this scholarship. Ensure that you respond directly to the selection criteria set out above as well as adding any other information you would like the selection panel to consider. Points to cover may include: 

  • Are you a financial member of WAFTA now?  Will you be a member at the time of participation in Fibres West 2025? 
  • Outline your past and current active participation in the activities and events of WAFTA
  • Describe how your participation at Fibres West 2025 would benefit your textile path
  • How will you contribute to the promotion of WAFTA and/or participation in the textile art events of WAFTA in the future?
